Alright! We’re 8 days into the Bike to Work Challenge and HOK is showing it’s pedaling power. I knew we had a healthy competitive spirit, but check out these stats. With 90 riders across the firm, we are ranked 16 of 557 organizations in terms of number of miles ridden. That’s the top 3% of participating organizations. Additionally, we are ranked 1st in out-biking all participating architecture firms.
Within HOK, the DC office (24 riders) is carrying the lead with 796 logged miles, followed closely by the St. Louis Office (8 riders). The Chicago Office (9 riders) is leading a near five-way tie for 3rd.
The rider with the most miles to date is St. Louis structural engineer Steve Crang with 210 logged miles (engineers represent!). Steve is followed very closely by DC Office Vincent Ng’s 205 logged miles. St. Louis rider “Bustaface” is in 3rd, and Seattle’s very own Todd Buchanan is in 4th.
Speaking of “Bustaface,” we’ve got a bit of creativity in rider aliases across the firm. Some of my favs are “Bus Food” from Atlanta, Houston team “Roadkill,” and Los Angeles team “Spoke to Soon.”
13 days remain in this challenge so there’s still plenty of time to pedal out the 20,000 miles it would take to out-bike Microsoft, Boeing, and REI. Rest assured, I’ll do everything I can to stretch out my half-mile commute. Keep pedaling!
