re:News in “Spontaneous Interventions” Exhibit in Chicago

HOK’s re:News banner has made its way to Chicago! HOK’s project re:NEWS was chosen for the 2012 Venice Biennale to be part of the US exhibit called “Spontaneous Interventions.” The exhibit has now traveled to Chicago, where it will be on display through September.

The exhibit highlights successful temporary or grassroots projects that created solutions or new opportunities in urban environments. HOK’s work on re:News, which re-purposes kiosks around the City that had fallen into disuse, is one of these projects.

Some of the new uses for the kiosks have included a bicycle repair station, a news stand that sells independently printed books, a rotating exhibit with different artists in residence, and turnkey museums displaying culturally significant objects.

The exhibit is on display from May 24 to September 1, 2013 at the Chicago Cultural Center, and will features numerous events and workshops related to the projects on display.
