Living and working in the entertainment capital of the world means that HOKers here see lots of film crews around town and get used to celebrity sightings.
The Los Angeles office recently had a brush with the movie industry. A film crew from Avalanche 3D Entertainment spent an entire day shooting and interviewing HOK’s team for the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) project.
The documentary-style film will chronicle the design and construction of ARTIC, from beginning to end. There will be a special focus on the sustainable aspects of the project, which is targeting LEED Platinum certification.
HOK Design Principal Ernest Cirangle, FAIA, LEED® AP (above) and Project Manager Albert Kaneshiro, AIA, LEED® AP BD+C (below) talked about delivering a design that encapsulates the city of Anaheim’s goals.
The entire ARTIC team was given center stage, as the filmmakers shined a light on the often behind-the scenes team members involved in designing a successful project.

Filming took place during a normal working Tuesday and everyone in the office was very accommodating. Though there were several “quiet on set” email requests, the typical studio buzz helped demonstrate our creative process.
The final film will debut as part of ARTIC’s grand opening in October. A 10-minute documentary on the transportation center’s sustainable design features will run continuously in the building’s main hall. A one-hour documentary focusing on all of the aspects of ARTIC is being created for television.
